Canyon Critters was founded by Nico Novelli to educate people about proper and responsible reptile and exotic pet care. In an effort to help support the ever-growing number of abandoned critters, Nico has rescued several throughout his career. He started taking in rescues when he was working for the Los Angeles County Animal Control, as an alternative to euthanizing them. It is important to note that his reptile and animal experiences started long before his time with Animal Control.

When Nico was as young as 6, he would bring home all kinds of animals to help and care for. Aside from owning and handling many types of animals for over 30 years, he also had the privilege to work for Jules Sylvester, the owner of Reptile Rentals which supplies reptiles and other exotic animals to the entertainment industry, for such movies as “Indiana Jones”, “Arachnophobia”, “Lemony Snicket”, and “Snakes on a Plane”. Nico assisted with the care and training of many animals while employed with Reptile Rentals.

He also gained experience in handling and caring for animals while living and volunteering at Kay’s Hybrid Wolf Rescue, where Nico’s beloved dog and company mascot, Harper came from. While at Kay’s, Nico improved his animal health care skills by assisting in all the hybrid's needs.

Canyon Critters is Nico’s passion. Canyon Critters animals now perform at live shows and events.
